The good the bad and the ugly DC sports

Image
A Difficult yet good day in DC The past day in DC sports was a crazy one, Ernie Grunfeld the general manager and president of the wizards was fired, Bryce Harper made his return ( in a Philly jersey) and a major piece to the capitals Michael kempny was injured and will be out for the rest of season including the playoffs The firing of now former GM Ernie Grunfeld was a long time coming for Washington Wizards fans as for a dreaded 16 years he was in charge and he was responsible for many disastrous trades and signings that led the wizards to struggle and not meet expectations in the playoffs. Ernie was responsible for handing out albatross contracts to role players like otto porter who he drafted 3rd overall in 2013 and he never met expectations, ian mahmni who highest ppg is 7.3, and Gilbert arenas in 2009 who came off a knee injury.  Bryce harper was the beloved player from the nationals who won multiple awards in DC. ...

Cleveland's Turnaround   The city of Cleveland has endured a lot of pains when it comes to sports. From not winning a sports championship since the 1964 to the played that kept them from going to a super bowl to beloved native Ohio product Lebron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010 to join the Miami Heat.  Baker mayfield (above) As of recently the city has done very well in sports (for the most part).                2002 national Championship In the 2002 NCAA tournament the University Maryland Terrapins Entered the mens basketball tourney looking to make a run and win the national championship after being beat by Hated rival duke in the final four last year.  Juan Dixon(left) and Steve Blake(right) were the leaders of the team.  Before we talk about the championship and the road to it we must take a step back into the past and look how Maryland was looked at before they won it all. When Maryland had H.O.F coach Lefty Drisel they were a perennial top team but never as good as the uber elite programs like Kansas, North Carolina, Ucla, etc. Things took a downward turn when Legend Len Bias died after an unexpected overdose on cocaine ( most people would have never thought Lenny would've down drugs but back then coke wasn't perceived as bad as it is today) and as a result Lefty was fired and replaced with Bob wade who nearly gave...

SMU DEATH PENALTY In the early 1980's Southern Methodists University or SMU for short owned the best overall record in collegiate football. From 1981-1984 SMU rode on the back of their famed backfield the "pony express" that consisted of running backs Craig James and Eric Dickerson. But as the middle of the decade approach the university became greedy and committed a ton of violations against NCAA rules. Power of the football program ceded to the oil tycoons and estate men of the region and recruiting violation after recruiting violation was committed. From paying recruits to giving them gifts the only thing that matter was winning and this greed and coruption would ruin the football program forever. SMU at the time was a member of the southwest conference. Currently known as the BIG 12 conference it was a powerhouse football conference with big members like Texas, Arkansas, and...
