Bad Boys
Detroit Pistons: Bad Boys
The Detroit Pistons are a storied franchise in the NBA dating all the way back to the beginning of the league. In the late 70's and early 80's the Pistons were a bottom dweller of the league, when players got there they immediately wanted to get out. In the 1981 NBA draft the Pistons help the number two overall pick and with it selected Isiah Thomas sophomore point guard who led Indiana to a national championship. Having Isiah at the helm turn the franchise in the right direction.
In the next year the pistons would trade to get Bill Laimbeer a notoriously tough defensive center and a key part of the future to come. In the years to come the Pistons would draft Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, and Jon Salley along with Trading and signing players like Rick Mahorn, Adrian Dantely, and James Edwards the pistons set themselves up to become a potential championship contender.
The 1980's were dominated by the Los Angeles Lakers led by Magic Johnson and the Boston Celtics led by Larry bird. The Pistons were an after thought, but in order to get past them they played the most physical defense the league has ever seen. They were dubbed as the Bad Boys, the villains of the league and everyone hated them, except Detroit. To get past the Celtics the pistons would first beat up on the young Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls which would spark a rivarly to last for many seasons.
In 1989 the Pistons would trade away Adrian Dantley as he had issues with the team for Mark Aguirre. And they would go on to win their first NBA championship and would then beat the Trail Blazers the next year to make it two in a row.
